Naturopathy is a non-invasive patient-centred therapy that acknowledges all spheres of
the patient – physical, psychological and emotional – offering a highly personalised
treatment. In our clinic, a Naturopathy consultation and treatment plan may include a
combination of nutrition, herbal medicine, supplements and lifestyle advice.
The principles of Naturopathy were first used by the Hippocratic School of Medicine in
about 400 BC. The Greek philosopher Hippocrates believed in viewing the whole person in
regards to finding a cause of disease, and using the laws of nature to support the body. It is
from this original school of thought that Naturopathy takes its principles:
•The healing power of nature – nature has the innate ability to heal•Identify and treat the root cause – there is always an underlying cause, be it physical or emotional.•Do no harm – a Naturopath will never use treatments that may create other conditions•Treat the whole person – when preparing a treatment plan, all aspects of a person’s being are taken into consideration
Herbal Medicine is the use of botanical ingredients to address health conditions and support general health and wellbeing. We offer Herbal Medicine as part of our
Naturopathy therapy.
The World Health Organization estimates that 88% of all countries use traditional medicine, including herbal medicine. Over 40% of pharmaceutical formulations are
based on botanical active ingredients, including landmark medicines such aspirin and artemisinin.
The treatment works alongside menopause medical doctors, as well as holistic practitioners, providing a combination of nutrition, herbal remedies and lifestyle
support to women, including those on HRT. This can also help with other health concerns such as digestive issues, poor sleep, anxiety and low immunity, in both men
and women.
Initial consultation
When booking your initial appointment, you will receive a health questionnaire to be completed ahead of your session. At your 60-minute initial appointment, Vera will
ask in more detail about your needs as well as key aspects of your health such as diet, digestion, sleep, lifestyle, and emotional wellbeing. Following your consultation,
Vera will email you a personalised treatment plan with nutritional, supplements, herbs and lifestyle advice.
Follow-up consultation(s)
A follow-up appointment is usually recommended four to five weeks after your initial appointment, in order to assess your progress, discuss any test results (if
applicable) and adjust the treatment plan accordingly. Naturopathy is a step by step process working towards an end goal. In order to achieve optimal results, you
need to be reviewed and your treatment tweaked accordingly. The number of follow-ups recommended is assessed on an individual basis.
•The Naturopath as a teacher – a Naturopath empowers the patient to take responsibility for his/her own health by teaching self-care•Prevention is better than cure – a Naturopath may remove “toxic” substances and situations from a patient’s lifestyle to prevent the onset of further disease
